7 Practices to Love Yourself a Little Extra Everyday
Hey Avrellian, even if you don’t feel motivated or powerful, think about how far you’ve come. You’re here, alive, beautiful and powerful.
Please remember, all love begins with the love within, so try these 7 practices to nourish the relationship with yourself.
1- DON'T LOSE YOURSELF IN RELATIONSHIPS
Shedding what makes you you is never necessary to have a healthy, long-lasting relationship. Remember to bring your whole, unique self to every relationship; it wouldn’t be an authentic one without it.
2- GROW YOUR BOLDNESS MUSCLE
Get into the habit of speaking your mind. Boldness is like a muscle — it grows the more you exercise it. Join the conversation. Contribute your thoughts. Take action; and know that your voice is just as important as anyone else’s.
3- SEE BEAUTY IN THE SIMPLE THINGS
In our fast-paced, constantly-connected world, it’s easy to overlook the simple things that impact significantly. But when you take the time to think deeply about them, you may discover hidden depths of meaning and significance. From a warm hug from a loved one to a beautiful sunset, simple things can transform your mood and outlook.
4- VALUE YOURSELF
You are worthy of respect, love, and well-being regardless of how you look. Your value doesn’t lie in how your body looks. Sometimes even your own internalized sexism affirms your thoughts of inadequacy. You are valuable because you are you, not because of your body.
5- FOCUS ON YOUR STRENGTHS
Instead of looking at your weaknesses, ask yourself what your strengths are. Celebrate them! Be proud of them. Don't brag, but feel good about them and work on using them to your best advantage.
6- MOVE
Movement connects the brain and body. It enlivens and energizes — and can be one of the best shortcuts from the busy mind to the here-and-now of the body. Move your body in some capacity every day. This can be as simple as choosing to take the stairs more often, getting up to stretch each hour, or going on regular walks in your neighborhood.
Exercise of any kind can reduce fatigue and improve sleep, decrease anxiety and depression, promote brain health, and improve your sense of well-being.
7- BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Speak to yourself with an encouraging and warm inner voice, as you might do to a friend if they need support. The world is full of harsh words and critique — don’t add yours to the mix.
By adopting a more forgiving and understanding attitude towards yourself, you can improve your relationships and achieve a greater sense of love.
